Black makes a bed look bigger, not smaller
A dark frame reads as a solid block against a light wall, so in a small room it draws the eye more than a pale one. That is a matter of taste rather than measurement, and the measurement is what decides whether the bed fits: allow a room about 2.8 x 3.0 m for a king size frame with one 60 cm walkway, and 3.2 x 3.4 m for a walkway on both sides with bedside tables.

Does a black metal frame chip?
Powder coating is baked on and hard, but a sharp knock on an edge will chip it, and on black the bare steel underneath shows as a pale mark. A touch-up pen covers it. If the bed will be moved often, the wrought iron Callum has a heavier gauge and a five year guarantee.
Is black crushed velvet actually black?
It reads as deep charcoal in daylight and close to black at night. Crushed velvet has a pile that catches light from every direction, so the colour shifts as you walk round it. If you want flat, even black, choose a plain fabric or a steel frame instead.
Do black frames show dust?
Yes, more than pale ones, and velvet more than steel. A dry microfibre cloth on the hard finishes and a soft brush attachment on the velvet is all it takes. No black finish here needs a special cleaner, and abrasives should not be used on any of them.
