The UK double mattress is 135 x 190 cm, or 4ft6 x 6ft3. It is the most common bed size in the country, so bedding is everywhere and cheap.

The frame around it is typically 145 to 150 cm wide and about 198 cm long. In a 3 metre wide room that leaves a comfortable walkway on both sides; in a 2.4 metre room you will want the bed against one wall.

If you are both over six foot, look at a king size instead: it is 15 cm wider and 10 cm longer, at 150 x 200 cm.

A UK double mattress is 135 x 190 cm. The frame around it is normally about 145 cm wide and 198 cm long, and that is the number that decides whether the door still opens.

Will a double bed fit my room?

Minimum room for a double: 2.65 m x 3.0 m with one walkway of 60 cm. Comfortable: 3.05 m x 3.4 m with 75 cm on both sides and room for two bedside tables.

Delivery, assembly and returns

Frames arrive flat-packed in 2 to 3 boxes (30 to 60 kg in total). Two people assemble a king size bed frame in 45 to 90 minutes with the tools in the box.

What size is a UK double bed?

135 x 190 cm, or 4ft6 x 6ft3. The frame around it is normally about 145 x 198 cm. Every product page here publishes the exact outside size.

Is a double bed big enough for two adults?

Each sleeper gets 67.5 cm, which is less than a single bed each. It is the standard UK couple size and works for most people, but if you are both tall or sleep with a child or a dog, a king size gives you 75 cm each.

Does a double bed come with a mattress?

No. Every frame here is sold frame only, so you can keep the mattress you have. It takes a standard UK double mattress, 135 x 190 cm.

Will a European double mattress fit?

No. A European double is 140 x 200 cm, 5 cm wider and 10 cm longer than the UK double. It will not sit inside a UK 4ft6 frame.

What is the difference between a double and a king size?

A double is 135 x 190 cm, a king size is 150 x 200 cm. That is 15 cm wider and 10 cm longer, and the frame needs about 15 cm more wall. See the full size chart.
