A UK super king bed is 180 cm wide and 200 cm long (6ft x 6ft 6in, 72 x 78 inches). It is 30 cm wider than a king size bed and the same length. The frame around it measures about 189 cm by 215 to 218 cm on the outside.

How big a room do you need for a super king?

To keep a 75 cm walkway on both sides you need a room at least 3.4 m wide (189 + 75 + 75 cm). With one walkway of 60 cm, the minimum is about 3.1 m wide and 3.0 m long. Add 45 to 50 cm on each side for bedside tables and 40 cm at the foot to open an ottoman.

• Room under 3.1 m wide: choose a king size bed (frame about 160 cm wide).
• Room 3.1 to 3.4 m: a super king fits against one wall, with one walkway.
• Room 3.4 m and wider: a super king fits centred with two walkways.

Super king vs king size: which one?

Choose a super king if you are two adults who share the bed with children or pets, if one of you moves a lot at night, or if you simply have the room. Choose a king size bed if the room is under 3.4 m wide: you keep the walkways and save about £60 on the frame and £100 to £300 on the mattress and bedding.
