A double ottoman needs clear space to open, not extra floor
An ottoman does not need a wider room than an ordinary double: the frame is the same size. What it needs is somewhere for the base to swing. An end lift wants roughly 40 to 50 cm clear at the foot of the bed; a side lift wants the same along one side. That is the measurement people forget, and it is why a bed pushed into an alcove sometimes cannot be opened at all.
A double frame here measures between 161 and 172 cm wide on the outside against a 135 cm mattress, so allow for that too. The double bed size guide has the full chart.

Double Ottoman Beds, answered
Is a double ottoman bed hard to open?
No. The gas struts carry the weight of the base and the mattress, so it lifts with one hand and stays up on its own. A double base is lighter than a king one, so if anything it is easier.
End lift or side lift for a double?
End lift if the sides of the bed are tight against furniture or a wall; side lift if the foot of the bed is against a wall or a radiator. That is the whole decision. Each product page says which way its base opens.
How much can you fit under a double ottoman?
The storage is the footprint of the bed, so 135 x 190 cm of floor. None of these makers publishes the depth under the base, so we do not convert it into litres; in practice people keep duvets, pillows, spare bedding and suitcases there.
Does the mattress have to come off to open it?
No, that is the point of an ottoman. The mattress stays where it is and lifts with the base.
