Single Bed Frames
A UK single mattress is 90 x 190 cm, or 3ft x 6ft3. The frame around it normally measures about 96 x 198 cm, so allow roughly a metre of wall width plus room to walk past.
Single frames suit box rooms, children’s rooms, guest rooms and student lets. Metal frames are the cheapest and take about 30 minutes to build. Wooden frames last longer in a room that gets daily use.
Need more sleeping width in the same room? A small double is only 30 cm wider at 120 cm, and often still fits.

Room check
Will a single bed fit my room?
Minimum room for a single bed: 2.2 m x 3.0 m with one walkway of 60 cm. That is the smallest box room in most UK houses, which is why the single is the size that fits when nothing else does.
Measure wall to wall, not skirting to skirting, and note where the door swings. If the room takes 30 cm more width, a small double fits instead.

Frames arrive flat-packed in 2 to 3 boxes (30 to 60 kg in total). Two people assemble a king size bed frame in 45 to 90 minutes with the tools in the box.

Single bed FAQ
What size is a UK single bed?
90 x 190 cm, or 3ft x 6ft3. The frame around that mattress is normally about 96 x 198 cm, and that is the figure that has to fit the room.
Is a single bed big enough for an adult?
Yes, for one adult. 90 cm of width is the standard each sleeper gets in a king size bed, so a single is not narrow for one person. It is the length, 190 cm, that catches anyone over about 1.85 m.
Does a single bed come with a mattress?
No. Every frame here is sold frame only, so you can keep the mattress you already have. It takes a standard UK single mattress, 90 x 190 cm.
Will a single bed take a slatted base?
Every frame listed here includes its base, sprung slatted or solid slatted depending on the model. You do not buy the base separately.
What is the difference between a single and a small double?
30 cm of width. A single is 90 x 190 cm, a small double is 120 x 190 cm. Same length, and the small double frame needs about 30 cm more wall.
