What velvet does that flat fabric does not
Velvet has a pile, and a pile has a direction. Brush it one way and it looks darker, the other way and it lifts. That is normal and it is why a velvet bed photographed from two angles looks like two colours. It also means fingerprints and cat trails show until you brush them out, which takes seconds with a dry cloth.
Headboards here run from 84 to 113 cm from the floor. On velvet the height matters more than on a plain fabric, because the taller the padded panel the more light it catches.

Is velvet hard to keep clean?
No, but it is different. A dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush lifts marks and resets the pile. Water rings can leave a mark on some velvets as they dry, so blot rather than rub, and never use an abrasive or a solvent cleaner.
Is crushed velvet the same thing?
No. Crushed velvet has the pile deliberately pressed in different directions so it shimmers. The velvets here are plain pile unless the product page says otherwise.
Does velvet get hot?
The frame is not what you sleep on, so no. Velvet on a headboard feels warmer to lean against than metal or wood, which is one reason people choose it.
