Measure your room for a king size bed.

A king size bed frame takes about 160 x 215 cm of floor. Add 60 cm for one walkway, 75 cm each side to be comfortable. Type or slide your room size in centimetres: the plan redraws to scale.

A 320 x 340 cm room fits a king size bed comfortably.80 cm on each side and 125 cm at the foot: room for two bedside tables. Minimum for any king size bed: 280 x 300 cm with one 60 cm walkway; 310 x 300 cm for 75 cm on both sides.

Will a king size bed fit my bedroom?

Minimum room for a king size bed: 2.8 m x 3.0 m with one walkway of 60 cm. Comfortable: 3.2 m x 3.4 m with 75 cm on both sides and room for two bedside tables (45 cm each). A wardrobe in front of the bed needs 90 cm to open. Ottoman beds need 40 cm clear at the foot (end lift) or one side (side lift) to open.

Measure wall to wall, not skirting to skirting, and note where the door swings. If you are between the two sizes, use the calculator above or read the full room guide.

King size bed FAQ

Does a king size bed come with a mattress?

No. Every king size bed here is sold as a frame only, so you can keep the mattress you already have. It takes a standard UK king mattress, 150 x 200 cm, up to 30 cm deep.

Will a European king mattress fit a UK king size bed?

No. A European king is 160 x 200 cm; a UK king size bed takes 150 x 200 cm. A 160 cm mattress will not fit inside the frame.

Is a king size bed big enough for two?

Yes. Each sleeper gets 75 cm, the same as a single bed. A double gives 67.5 cm each.

Do I need a super king instead?

If your room is at least 3.4 m wide and you sleep with children or pets, a super king (180 x 200 cm) gives 15 cm more each. Otherwise a king size bed is the better fit for most UK bedrooms.

How much weight can a king size bed frame hold?

Most makers do not publish a weight limit. Where one does, the product page gives it.

What is the difference between a king size bed and a double?

A king size bed is 150 x 200 cm; a double is 135 x 190 cm. That is 15 cm wider and 10 cm longer.
