Why metal
What a metal frame does better, and worse
Metal frames are the lightest and the cheapest way to get a double bed that lasts. A powder coated steel frame weighs from about 35 kg against 50 to 70 kg for solid wood, which matters when it has to go up a stairwell. There is nothing to swell, warp or split, and the finish does not mark.
The honest downside is noise. Metal joints work loose over time and that is where squeaking comes from, not the slats. Bolts want checking once or twice in the first year, and once a year after that. Wooden and upholstered frames are quieter from the start.

What size is a metal double bed frame?
It takes a UK double mattress, 135 x 190 cm. The frame itself measures about 143 to 147 cm wide by 198 cm long, which is narrower than a padded frame of the same size because the tube takes up less room than upholstery.
Do metal bed frames squeak?
They can, and the cause is almost always the bolted joints working loose rather than the slats. Tightening every bolt once or twice in the first year, then annually, stops it. A wooden or upholstered frame is quieter from new.
Are metal bed frames strong enough?
Yes. The limit is rarely the metal, it is the base. Every frame here comes with its slatted base included, and the weight rating is published on the product page where the manufacturer states one. Where they do not state one, we say so rather than guess.
